I'm not a Tar Heel fan, but I like MOST of the team. Psycho-T - not so much. I just think he's too dramatic and obnoxious.

Vince - the genius with a headset that brought us the ShamWow and the SlapChop landed behind bars for beating up a hooker!

Apparently, she DIDN'T love his nuts.

Vince was arrested last month in Miami. Here's how it played out... Vince paid the hooker a thousand bucks for sex. They started making out and the hooker bit his tongue and wouldn’t let go. So.... Vince punched her in her face.

Repeatedly.

Seriously, I thought this kid had a fantastic sex life, he's been fucking Americans out of three easy payments of $29.99 for a while!

WSOC vs. TimeWarner

Round One:

WSOC announces it is trying to work things out with TimeWarner Cable, but things aren't looking so good. Company starts doling out shows that you won't be able to watch anymore - heavy hitters like Oprah, Grey's Anatomy, Lost and WSOC News

Round Two:

TimeWarner starts sending out e-mails saying it was working with WSOC, until it went public with the problems and says WSOC just wants too much money.

The e-mail had quotes like "Local ABC affiliate WSOC-TV has threatened to remove its programming from Time Warner Cable customers unless their unprecedented demands are met."

TWC says WSOC wanted millions more, because they weren't making the money they needed, saying "That’s like asking you to pay extra rent now when your lease isn’t up until the end of the year, just because the landlord isn’t earning enough money from other tenants. It’s outrageous, and unfortunate that our customers could be the victims here."

The gut-punch in my opinion, was the following paragraph.

If TWC and WSOC-TV do not reach an agreement by April 1st and WSOC decides to pull its station from the channel line-up, customers will be able to access WSOC programming over the air with an antenna or online. Popular ABC programming such as Grey’s Anatomy, Dancing with the Stars, Lost and The View can be viewed at www.abc.go.com. Daytime programming such as All My Children and General Hospital can be viewed on SOAPnet and http://www.abc.go.com/.

Basically... if they pull ABC, you can still get it online and you won't miss anything. Ouch!

Round 3:

You didn't really think WSOC was just going to let that go, did you?

Nope. They replied via their website and Facebook, yup - online mediums!

Is WSOC-TV and WAXN-TV really asking for a fee that is 5 times more than other TV stations currently receive from Time Warner Cable?
No, while the agreements between TV stations and cable operators are confidential, it has been published that LIN TV reached an agreement in October 2008 with Time Warner cable asking for 30 cents per subscriber. WSOC-TV and WAXN-TV are seeking considerably less than 30 cents per subscriber for both stations combined.

The gut-punch from WSOC? The reply to "other options for getting programming" was to offer other options for television!

How can I get WSOC-TV and WAXN-TV?
There are lots of ways you can watch WSOC-TV and WAXN-TV in high definition. If you have a new digital set, it likely already is equipped with an in-set tuner that allows you to watch WSOC-TV and WAXN-TV without cable or satellite. You can also watch WSOC-TV and WAXN-TV if you sign up for one of the satellite services: DIRECTV (1-800-DIRECTV) , DISH Network (1-888-DISH-916) and AT&T Uverse. All three of these companies not only carry WSOC-TV’s standard signal in digital, they both offer High Definition boxes that, when connected to a standard antenna, will allow you to view our High Definition programming without any additional monthly charge.

Should be interesting to see where the bitch fight goes from here.

You knew it would happen sooner or later.

Once celebrities catch on to the newest internet craze -- it becomes part of the "news" surrounding them. First it was Myspace and celebrity blogs when they were fighting or had "opinions." When Myspace wasn't cool any more, celebs joined the rest of us on Facebook.

Now... the Twitter.

Two of the biggest celebs making news with their Twitter accounts -- John Mayer and Ashton Kutcher.

According to reports, Jennifer Aniston dumped John Mayer over his Twitter obsession. He would basically tell her he was too busy to call or text her, but then he was updating his Twitter account while he was "too busy."

Ashton Kutcher is giving us a look into his life, and at his wife, through his Twitter.

Wow, even I wouldn't go there.

Our Prez made a pretty big faux pas when he was on Jay Leno's show last night.

He compared his crappy bowling skills to the Special Olympics and as you can guess -- he's NOT a good bowler. He was talking about the 37 he scored on the campaign trail and said "It's like -- it was like Special Olympics or something."

Ouch.

He HAS apologized, but I bet that doesn't go away quietly.

Thanks to a new cologne, dorks now have their own scents... and for once it doesn't smell like a library.

Genki Wear has produced what might be the most unusual Star Trek product ever: Star Trek colognes and perfume based on the original 1960s television show.

Right now there are three scents from the final frontier: "Tiberius," "Red Shirt" and "Ponn Farr."

I'm not a Star Trek person, so I only get the first one. I don't know what the other two mean.

The Tiberius cologne is described as being spiked with "notes of freshness and sensuality." The company promises that "Tiberius Cologne for men is difficult to define and impossible to refuse." HA HA!

The colognes will retail for about $30-40.

NCAA: Bruised ego, faces and backs!

The NCAA tournament turned into a bloody mess today... literally!

When the chips were down, two players showed a lack of common sense.

Morgan State's Ameer Ali obviously thought he was a "wrassler" instead of a basketball player. When Morgan State was down by 24 points to Oklahoma -- he flipped out and then flipped Sooner Blake Griffin.

It happened with about 7.5 minutes left in the game. Ali was kicked out of the game.

Griffin just isn't having such good luck. Last month he took an elbow to the jaw, which left him with a concussion! Ouch.

Speaking of concussions, one Clemson Tiger proved that southern hospitality only applies when you're at your mama's house!

Clemson guard Terrence Oglesby was ejected in the second half of the Tigers' game against Michigan.

Apparently Oglesby got frustrated with with the lack of calls by the officials and hit Michigan's Stu Douglass with a 'bo (elbow) while trying to shake him loose on offense. After reviewing -- the officials decided he did it on purpose.

Hell, they only lost by three. If he'd shaken him a little earlier, the Tigers might have won!

I <3 My Marriage...

Sometimes you just can't believe everything you read.

You know that show on VH1 or MTV or whatever - the Tool Academy? I only saw one episode, but this guy seems like a natural candidate if they do a season 2.
His shirt says "I HEART My Marriage" but I don't believe him. Why? Well... this is a mug shot from beating his wife!

He attacked her and choked her... allegedly.

Even more ironic... according to The Smoking Gun... the t-shirt is actually a promotional item from Kirk Cameron's pro-marriage/religious flick "Fireproof."

The nomination process isn't over yet, but there has been an incredible amount of response, so I'm posting a preview.

During the nomination process, I saw a good many names that I expected, and some I wasn't really expecting to see. Not that these people aren't hot, they just surprised me.

Over the past 24 hours, I've gotten a chance to talk with some of the nominee (or chat, I guess) via Facebook. It's been very interesting to see their responses to the fact they were nominated.

So... without further ado, here are some of your nominees.

Tom Roussey - WBTV

Tom was nominated multiple times. He works as a reporter for WBTV and is often seen on the 10pm and 11pm news. Tom plays Media League softball and according to one nomination, is a pretty good slugger!

When asked what he thought about being considered one of Charlotte's hottest, he said "tell them I single-handedly bring down the quality of the nominees! :)"

Modest.

Morgan Fogarty - Fox Charlotte

Morgan has been a staple at Fox Charlotte for a while now, and she was definitely a top nominee. I promised I would keep it a secret, and I will not say who, but one or two of the people who were nominated for the bracket -- nominated Morgan!

In addition to getting nominations from her peers, Morgan is also in another "media bracket" and as made it all the way to the finals. This is a NATIONAL competition. She's up against the reigning champ, so if you like her -- go vote for her in that bracket too.

Chad Rock - KISS 95.1

Chad Rock is one of Charlotte's premiere party guys. In addition to being on the radio (KISS 95.1) in the afternoons, you can normally catch Chad at the bars/clubs and is often heard broadcasting live from the best party spots.

Chad was the first one I talked to about being nominated for the Hottest in Charlotte, and I still think he is the most pumped! He was definitely psyched about the bracket and I think he plans to pimp himself out for votes on the radio!

Arden McLaughlin - Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg Co.

This is one of those nominations that caught me off guard. Arden isn't your typical media personality, mainly because she doesn't have a steady media job. She works with the Library.

But... Arden made the list, because she is on a regular segment on WBTV News at Noon called "Need to Read." According to one nomination, "If everyone at the library looked like Arden, you'd start seeing lines to check out the books!" Well hell - that's quite seal of approval!

Ben Thompson - WSOC

Another tv man making the list, Ben is an anchor/reporter on WSOC. You can catch him a couple days a week, and anchoring on the weekends. I talked with Ben, and he seemed very surprised by the nomination, and much like Tom was humble about it.

But Ben definitely has his opinions (about the bracket and about life), but I promised I wouldn't quote him! He's already making predictions about who he thinks will/should win. One of the nominations for Ben said "He's a calm voice in a sea of bad news, I turn to him when I need to find out whats going on in the world, and its an added bonus that he's H-O-T

From Dora the Explora to Dora de Whore-a??

Are you kidding me?

Little dumpy Dora the Explorer is causing a scandal? That is muy malo!

Mattel and Nickelodeon apparently feel like they lose kids after age five, so they are trying to get kids a little older to keep with the brand. So enter... new and older Dora!

So what do parents think?

A sexed-up version of a children's icon.
A poor example for kids.

No lie... those are direct quotes!

They say the new Dora appeared to have long flowing hair, and was wearing what seemed a scanty skirt, emphasizing her long, shapely legs. The Huffington Post even asks "Did Mattel turn Dora the Explorer into a Tramp?"

Am I the only one that thinks parents are being too weird about this? Good Lord, even if you think the dress is too short - the sketch shows her wearing tights!

Everywhere I looked today, Facebook was there.

There was the couple hours I spent on Facebook (add me), there was all the bitching about the new Facebook layout, and there were stories on the news about the "dangers" of social networking.

Not dangers in the traditional sense, but I'll get to that in a sec.

First the new layout. If you have Facebook, you know about the coming changes. For the rest of you, you don't really care.

Diver "Fights Off" Shark

I saw this on the news and was DISGUSTED!

A diver in the Gulf of Mexico was "attacked" by a 12-foot Tiger shark and survived to tell the story, and show the video.

Now, don't get me wrong, if this was a real attack - I'd pull for the guy. But it doesn't sound completely legit.

The guy SAYS the shark started acting aggressive. That sounds okay, but then he fought the shark for two hours in "hand to fin" combat. Says he shot the shark six times with a spear gun and then had to stab the shark and eventually drown it.

The whole time, someone else was rolling the camera. And there was bait out. Guy says he fought the shark to keep himself and the other divers safe.

My thoughts... they baited the shark, got it around and filmed him killing it - claiming it was self defense. If there was such danger, why didn't the other people swim away while you fought the shark? Why didn't you try swimming away? You were right there by the boat.

Something just doesn't add up.

Basketball action on Thursday was CRAAAAAZY.

In the ACC:

Unranked Georgia Tech (worst team in the ACC) upset Number 18 Clemson
Virginia Tech knocked off Miami
Maryland defeated NC State
Boston College knocked out Virginia

One of the biggest stories, if not THE biggest story - the Syracuse/UCONN game.

Syracuse survived the longest game in Big East history with the epic win over UConn. The game was the second-longest Division I game ever played!

We're talking about SIX overtimes people. Six!

In the end... Syracuse got the 127-117 victory over the Huskies.

Earlier West Virginia beat No. 2 Pittsburgh which means Syracuse will take on the Mountaineers.

Police: What Chris Brown did to Rihanna

I know its been out a week, but I think it's worth a second read.

If you somehow haven't read it yet, this is the police affidavit from the Chris Brown / Rihanna incident. PS... Robyn F. = Rihanna

"Brown was driving a vehicle with Robyn F. as the front passenger on an unknown street in Los Angeles. Robyn F. picked up Brown's cellular phone and observed a three-page text message from a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with.

"A verbal argument ensued and Brown pulled the vehicle over on an unknown street, reached over Robyn F. with his right hand, opened the car door and attempted to force her out. Brown was unable to force Robyn F. out of the vehicle because she was wearing a seat belt. When he could not force her to exit, he took his right hand and shoved her head against he passenger window of the vehicle, causing an approximate one-inch raised circular contusion.

"Robyn F. turned to face Brown and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. The assault caused Robyn F.'s mouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter all over her clothing and the interior of the vehicle.

"Brown looked at Robyn F. and stated, 'I'm going to beat the s--t out of you when we get home! You wait and see!'"

The detective said she then used her cell phone to call her personal assistant, Jennifer Rosales, who did not answer.

"Robyn F. pretended to talk to her and stated, 'I'm on my way home. Make sure the police are there when I get there.'

"After Robyn F. faked the call, Brown looked at her and stated, 'You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I'm really going to kill you!'

"Brown resumed punching Robyn F. and she interlocked her fingers behind her head and brought her elbows forward to protect her face. She then bent over at the waist, placing her elbows and face near her lap in [an] attempt to protect her face and head from the barrage of punches being levied upon her by Brown.

"Brown continued to punch Robyn F. on her left arm and hand, causing her to suffer a contusion on her left triceps that was approximately two inches in diameter and numerous contusions on her left hand.

"Robyn F. then attempted to send a text message to her other personal assistant, Melissa Ford. Brown snatched the cellular telephone out of her hand and threw it out of the window onto an unknown street.

"Brown continued driving and Robyn F. observed his cellular telephone sitting in his lap. She picked up the cellular telephone with her left hand and before she could make a call he placed her in a head lock with his right hand and continued to drive the vehicle with his left hand.

"Brown pulled Robyn F. close to him and bit her on her left ear. She was able to feel the vehicle swerving from right to left as Brown sped away. He stopped the vehicle in front of 333 North June Street and Robyn F. turned off the car, removed the key from the ignition and sat on it.

"Brown did not know what she did with the key and began punching her in the face and arms. He then placed her in a head lock positioning the front of her throat between his bicep and forearm. Brown began applying pressure to Robyn F.'s left and right carotid arteries, causing her to be unable to breathe and she began to lose consciousness.

"She reached up with her left hand and began attempting to gouge his eyes in an attempt to free herself. Brown bit her left ring and middle fingers and then released her. While Brown continued to punch her, she turned around and placed her back against the passenger door. She brought her knees to her chest, placed her feet against Brown's body and began pushing him away. Brown continued to punch her on the legs and feet, causing several contusions.

"Robyn F. began screaming for help and Brown exited the vehicle and walked away. A resident in the neighborhood heard Robyn F.'s plea for help and called 911, causing a police response. An investigation was conducted and Robyn F. was issued a Domestic Violence Emergency Protective Order."

Ah. Sorry y'all. It's almost been a week since my last post.

No one is reading this to care, but I still feel bad.

So here are a couple things that happened in the past week:

UNC beats Duke; Takes Number One in ACC
- Duh. We all kinda new this was going to happen. Sorry Dookies, it was just obvious that this was going to happen. The ACC Tourney starts tomorrow!

Octomom 911 call released
- I don't want to hate on the Octomom, but this call was craaazy! She didn't know where her kid was, even though he was with the nanny. I know this happens, where the kid disappears and you freak out - but she was threatening to kill herself on the 911 call! What about your five other (at the time) kids?? Cuckcoo!

Brit's who-ha makes news
- The audio of Britney Spears talking about her "waldrobe malfunction" was released. She was talking about that you could see it. Ummm... this isn't the first time your who-ha has made the news. Who HASN'T seen that?

Football Players Lost at Sea
- So the one survivor is the only survivor. That's just sad. A fishing trip gone wrong and it's just so hard to think about the families. It's one thing to die on land, at least then there is a CHANCE to get the body back and mourn. But bodies lost at sea rarely ever turn up, especially how far out they were. R.I.P.

Stabbed in Head
- How crazy was this? Tampa Bay Bucs linebacker Geno Hayes was stabbed in the head and neck by his crazy girlfriend! Hayes was taken to a hospital by a friend Saturday. I bet he wishes he'd stayed at Florida State a little longer and never met that crazy woman. Speaking of domestic violence...

Chris Brown vs. Rihanna: Round 57
- I say versus, but its really not. They got back together. Why, I'll never know. Its like she doesn't realize he beat the shit out of her. He went to court a week ago, and the details of the police report was released. The reports been out about a week, but I'm still gonna post it later. It's a good read, in a bad way. Her people don't want pictures of the two of them together to get out, his people do. Go figure!

Hmmm... what else. I'm sure is tons more that I would have/should have written about, but I can't find my list right now.

Eve Carson: One Year Later

UNC's Student Body President Eve Carson was murdered one year ago today.

Eve is such an inspiration to a lot of students and it was good to see her represented so well today. Check out the video below. It's the memorial held today at "the Pit" at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Today - the school and media honored Carson's memory.

I hope the guys responsible get what they deserve.

DA: Chris Brown expected in court

That's right y'all... CB is supposed to be in an LA courtroom today!

He is supposed to be in court around 3:30 (turn that into 6:30 our time). All the media is jumping on this and trying to get to the courtroom. But will he really show up?

Brown has been charged with two felonies. Court documents definitely show Rihanna as the victim of the alleged attack. His charges: assault likely to cause great bodily injury and making criminal threats.

IF... he gets convicted (yes, he gets his day in court, not just in the public eye), he could get anything from probation to almost five years in the slammer!

Honestly, I'd be surprised if he shows up. I think it'll just be his lawyer (unless he HAS to go).

I was reading this article earlier today, but Charlotte ranking pretty high on the "Manly" list.

I was planning to blog about it (it was on my list, yes, I make lists) and I heard Candy and Potter talking about it on their radio show.

The data was adjusted by the current population of the cities to arrive at "per capita" figures, providing an accurate comparison between cities of varying sizes.

Once again, Terrell Owens is parting ways with his team.

First, the Eagles - now the Cowboys.

I was reading this in "The Huddle"

ESPN and Fox Sports is saying T.O. is out, but the team still isn't talking yet. Speaking of talking -- if T.O. would keep his mouth shut now and then -- maybe his team and teammates would like him better.

I know football players are supposed to be cocky and all -- but there is a difference between being cocky and being an ass. For example - T.O. = Ass. Steve Smith = Cocky.

But the difference... Smith is cocky, but knows when to keep his mouth shut, and when to give his team credit... and he's great with the community.

I can handle cocky, but when you're an ass, I'm done. Peace T.O.!

Three football players missing

This is crazy stuff -- three men are missing after their boat flipped over Saturday night. A fourth person with them was found clinging to an overturned boat this morning off Florida’s Gulf Coast.

The group went out for a weekend fishing trip -- the boat flipped and three went missing.

Survivor Nick Schuyler, a former University of South Florida player, told rescuers that the 21-foot boat was anchored when it flipped Saturday evening in rough seas and that the others got separated from the boat.

The boat belongs to Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper, who along with free-agent defensive lineman Corey Smith and former South Florida player William Bleakley, remain missing.

Schuyler’s mother, Marsha Schuyler, said her son told her that he survived by thinking about how he didn’t want her to go to his funeral.

You guys might remember Corey Smith -- he was a standout at NC State.

Lets hope they find the guys soon.

Can I just say wow?

I just spent the last few hours at the CIAA Tournament for the first time in my life. As I type this I'm still sitting in the arena watching the games. I know the event has been in Charlotte for a while now, but Ive never been.

This is a great event. Not only is it great basketball but there is such a feeling of unity. Its a place to see and be seen. People are dressed in everything from sweats to their Sunday best... and then some!

I saw just about every local news organization with their cameras. One station even did the news live from the Arena (twice). I know WBTV had Grammy award winner Anthony Hamilton on their show.

There was such a crowd to see him and take pics with him. I skipped out on that.

Great food, great basketball, great fun... and all for a great cause.

CIAA... you are welcome in my city anytime!

Big water problems in California

Three years into the drought in California -- there are BIG problems.

Parts of the state are now under extreme restrictions - 150 gallons per day per household. It doesn't matter if you live alone, or have a complete family.

150 gallons? That is not a lot of water.

You're talking about a 15 minute shower or 3 small loads of laundry. Can you imagine having a family of 4? That's less than 5 minutes per shower and you can use NO other water all day long. No dishes, no laundry -- nothing.

Each house gets two warnings. If you go over the allotment more than twice -- your water gets cut off.

And we all thought Charlotte's water restrictions were tight last summer. Lets hope it doesn't get that bad here!

Pothead makes his debut in Charlotte?

Good news for all you Michael Phelps fans... the pothead will be back in the pool before you know it -- and you can watch his big splash debut, here in the Queen City!

Phelps will reportedly take place in Charlotte's Ultraswim in May. That will be the end of his three month suspension and he'll be back in action.

But not while getting high.

I was reading Scott Fowler's blog earlier and he noted an article he wrote three years ago about Phelps and the Ultraswim.

In November 2004, Phelps got pulled over in Maryland and was arrested for drunken driving. He would eventually plead guilty and be sentenced to 18 months of probation.

"I made a mistake and I admitted to it," Phelps said Friday after he swam one of his early morning heats. "I know what I did wasn't the right thing. But it's a part of my life now and something I have to accept. Hopefully, I can teach other kids not to make the same mistake that I did."

Phelps has made a number of speeches to youth groups since, urging them not to drink and drive. His sponsors have stuck by him.
Sounds kinda familiar, doesn't it?

Thanks Phelps. You entertain me - if nothing else. I just might even buy tickets to the Ultraswim this year.

Better be careful Biden... you put a target like that on your forehead and former-VP Dick Cheney might pull out his gun. And we know what happens when he goes hunting!

Charles Barkley is jail-bound

Even the old guys are starting to be a disappointment.

With all the crap Julius Peppers, Michael Phelps and Brett Favre have put us through -- and now... Charles Barkley.

Barkley is heading to prison (for a couple days) after he plead guilty to drunk driving. He got caught in Arizona on New Years Eve morning.

Apparently, he was sentenced to ten days -- but only has to serve five if he completes an alcohol education program. So -- starting March 21st, its adios for about a week.

Woman named Ho Suk Kim arrested for prostitution

Me!

I'm officially the last blogger to mention the Academy Awards from last night. I haven't felt like typing the last couple days (sorry), so I've been holding off.

Not really - I've been in Washington, D.C. giving my opinion about the stimulus plan to President Barack Obama like everyone else.

Anyways...

Big hits were kinda obvious at the award ceremony. "Slumdog Millionaire" won a bunch of awards, including best picture.

"Milk" won some awards -- including Orginal Screenplay and Actor, in a leading role. Sean Penn and writer Dustin Lance Black both took the time in the spotlight to highlight the need for gay rights.

PS - good thing Brad Pitt didnt watch. That dramatic pull-out would have been weird with Jennifer Aniston standing right there.

And good for the family of Heath Ledger - they had a great speech.

The president of the International Olympics Committee say he needs "a second chance." That's just great. Isn't this the same group that yanks gold medals for even a hint of drugs?

Suddenly its the Golden Boy of the Summer Olympics and is okay?

That's bull... just bull!

Rogge says the American swimmer should receive the benefit of the doubt after his apology and promise not to repeat his mistake.

Luckily - the U.S. swimming federation has some common sense and suspended his butt for three months and Kellogg's dropped him as well.

Best sports in Charlotte?

The Charlotte Observer put out its list of the top five Charlotte sportscasters of all time.

Strangely - only one is currently doing the sports in Charlotte still.

5. Mike Solarte, News 14: The best thing going right now. Solarte does a 30-minute sports show almost daily -- and effectively -- like an N.C. “SportsCenter.”

4. Chuck Howard, WCNC: Came in from Buffalo and was a local whiz kid. He was polished and knowledgeable and broke a lot of news. He was major network good.

3. Jim Thacker, WBTV: I remember him as much for calling ACC basketball with Billy Packer as I do the local sports, but he was awful good at both.

2. Paul Cameron, WBTV: Fair and balanced, Cameron came across like your favorite uncle. His “Football Friday Night” high school show is one of the best local TV creations of all time.

1. Harold Johnson, WSOC: He was once as a big a celebrity locally as many of the people he interviewed. His “Big Guy” persona was ESPN before there was ESPN.

Solarte is still on 14, Howard is now on the SPEED Channel, Cameron is now a newscaster for the late news on WBTV.

I don't mean any disrespect to the guys on the list, but really?

I have to say, Delano Little should be on this list without a doubt. Almost everyone in the area under the age of 30 grew up with Delano hosting Football Friday Night. When I think sports, I think Delano.

Panthers prowl for Gross; tag Peppers

The Carolina Panthers have placed the franchise tag on defensive end Julius Peppers... so get ready for some fireworks y'all!

Pep has made it painfully clear that he doesn't want to play with the Panthers anymore and today was the last day for franchise tagging.

Right before the tag, the Cats signed tackle Jordan Gross on a six-year deal. That freed by the restrictive tag for Pep. We all know what this means -- he's going to request a trade.

If he stays -- the Panthers will have to pay him nearly $17 million. If he goes, the Cats get at least two first-round picks. Unfortunately for the big wigs, Pep still has the power because no team would likely trade for him without a long-term contract agreement first.

Gross will get $30.5 million over the first three years of the contract. That's the biggest first three-year payout to an offensive lineman in NFL history. Go Gross!

Speaking of go... peace out Pep! Lets hope something grateful will blow our way.

I Keepa away from the IKEA. At least for a while.

Everyone is freaking out about the new IKEA, I'm not going anywhere near it until things settle down.

I haven't seen people freaking out about a new store like this in a LONG time. It's like when the Wii first came out - crazy.

There's just something wrong about all that cheap furniture in one place. Feels like a ticking time bomb.

Facebook: 'We OWN you'

Pubic outcry (aka - people bitching and moaning) made the head hanchos rethink this decision. If only banks and the government worked this quickly when people bitched.

Who's more valuable?

I was trolling local websites today and I noticed something on WBTV.

The sports department is playing a little game called "Who's More Valuable?" Last night, sports anchor Danielle Trotta talked about the franchise tag deadline and the Jordan Gross/Julius Peppers problem.

Gross has publicly said he wants to stay with the team, and the Panthers WANT him to stay. We need him on the O-line.

Pep on the other hand, has said multiple times in public that he wants nothing to do with the Panthers. I've blogged about this before, and I've made my opinions very clear... let Pep go.

Put the franchise tag on Pep and trade him away for something good, and give Gross a nice contract.

Granted, the team is in the middle of layoffs and two players are talking millions of dollars. Kind of a sick irony. I don't hear anyone on the Panthers team talking about taking a cut to keep staffers. I'm sure its from different budgets - at least, I hope it is.

So... Peace out Pep and stick around Gross. Yes, that IS my final answer.

Obama signs stimulus bill; CA in trouble

It's official - $787 billion is headed into projects/states.

President Barack Obama signed the bill about 40 minutes ago.

The money, earmarked for a LOT of projects, so I guess we'll see how it works. It's not expected to show that "immediate" affect, but lets hope it doesn't take TOO long.

Until then, I'm gonna be nicer (at work, that is) and a harder worker. Need to make sure I keep that sweet job.

Meanwhile...

Big problems in California. The Governator and crew is facing a 20,000 job layoff. The state is expecting to start the massive layoffs of government workers soon and halt all public works projects.

Ouch.

So because lawmakers want to bitch and moan about the state budget, thousands are going to lose jobs, in addition to all the construction jobs that will be lost as well.

Might be better for everyone in the state if that big earthquake would just make it an island already.

Davidson Wildcats missing a kitty, still a winning team?

It was something no one wanted to see -- except maybe every basketball player in the nation, and a couple freaks with twisted senses of humor.

I saw the video on WBTV over the weekend, looks nasty.

Luckily, Curry is apparently "day by day" with nothing broken. Hopefully he'll get back in the game soon.

So what happens to the rest of the Wildcats with the head kitten on the bench?

Personally, I think the team won't suffer too much. Granted, Curry is an excellent player, but the rest of the team is top notch - they have a great program. I'm sure all they need is Curry on the sidelines, cheering on the rest of them.

So now... the 15 year old girl has four people who MIGHT be the baby's daddy.

We all thought the 13 year old that looked nine was the baby's dad, but now three other guys have come forward saying they might be the dad.

Apparently this girl gets around (allegedly).

The girl claims Alphie (the 13 year old "father") took her virginity and she hasn't had any other sex.

I know three other boys that have claimed otherwise!

Congrats Michael Phelps -- eight people have been charged after you were caught in a photo smoking pot -- and somehow you managed NOT to be one of them.

Apparently, 14 gold medals keeps you outta jail.

If I were you, I'd go out and shoot someone, maybe a rival swimmer... like that guy that almost beat you in the Olympics. Kind of a Tanya Harding move. You probably wouldn't jail then either.

Then again, athletes in Columbia always seem to get a pass (see University of South Carolina). I think Steve Spurrier called Lou Holtz and they conspired to get you off.

At least the Kellogg Company has some sense and dropped you like a bad habit. Tony the Tiger would be so happy, calling the move "Grrrrrrreat!"

Guys and single men/women all hate Valentine's Day.

This is an article for the men - don't F- up on Valentine's. You hate it, you think its dumb and a commercial holiday... but your woman loves it. Probably because its one of the times in a year that you HAVE to show her how much you love/like her.

Here are a couple pointers guys (from the experts, since I'm clueless, too).

DON'T...

Follow the Herd - Most lovers appreciate a little one-on-one time on this particular day. So, don't even think about suggesting that the two of you join a small army of friends for "a couple of beers" and some loud club music.
Be a Cliché - Red roses are pretty, sure. Chocolates taste good, yup. But don't do both, unless you add in something unique. Differentiate your relationship from every other one out there. A big bowl of garden-fresh gardenias or a sweet bunch of colorful Gerber daisies speak volumes over a dozen been-there-done-that red roses. She will appreciate when you think outside the chocolate box.

Get Crafty - Make a homemade card or collage, design a T-shirt at the copy shop with an inside joke, or log onto Snapfish or iPhoto and design a do-it-yourself photo album -- it's fun to create and affordable, too.

Freaky nails this isn't, but I have to admit - this blew me away just as much.

A 13 year old boy is now a dad.

That part was shocking enough (kinda) but when you see the kid, its even more shocking... he looks SO young.

They say he's 13, but I swear he looks like he's only 9. And she's only 15.

Their lives have changed so much, its crazy.

Woman loses freakishly long nails in crash

A woman in Utah is famous for her long fingernails... at least she USED to be.

Lee Redmond is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for her long fingernails, but lost them in a car crash a couple days ago.

Admit it, that's just creepy and unnatural.

The woman hadn't cut her nails since the late 70s and they were more than 28 feet long (total). The longest nail was her right thumb at 2 feet, 11 inches.

That's a small child!

She's in the hospital and I hope she gets well, but maybe, just maybe this was a sign to cut your fingernails.

At least 49 dead in plane crash

Reports out of Buffalo, NY say a plane crashed killing 48 people on the plane, one person on the ground. The plane crashed into a home and erupted in flames.

Holy crap. This is beyond sad. The plane was just going from Newark, NJ to Buffalo, NY... a short trip.

This was not one of the "I'm going overseas, lets say good-bye in case something happens" kind of flights. Its like flying from Charlotte to Raleigh, if even that.

To the people on Continental Flight 3407, their friends and families... prayers.

Too bad this wasn't another "Miracle on the Hudson" moment.

Finally, some really good news.

We didn’t win the Division playoffs, Pep doesn’t want to play with us anymore, and Jordan Gross may or may not be with the team much longer… but hey – Jerry Richardson has a new heart and is FINALLY out of the hospital.

Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson has been released from the hospital 12 days after undergoing a heart transplant.
Apparently he is out, but not out of the woods just yet. He’ll still be
monitored by doctors… probably for the next three and six months.

Are you ready for some football?!?

Like I mentioned in the last post - the ACC released its team schedules for the '09 Season.

Big happenings already in play.

First - the Miami/FSU rivalry is coming back to Labor Day Monday, this year in Tallahassee.

The ACC Championship Game will be played on Dec. 5 in Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. Can't wait until that thing moves to Charlotte!

Another big side note -- there are already six Thursday Night ESPN appearances slated for the ACC.

NC State vs South Carolina on Sept. 3
Clemson at Georgia Tech on Sept. 10
Georgia Tech at Miami on Sept. 17
Florida State at North Carolina on Oct. 22
North Carolina at Virginia Tech on Oct. 29
Virginia Tech at East Carolina on Nov. 5.

Notice GT, UNC and VT all have two Thursday night appearances. All of them, two weeks in a row...

I don't know how I feel about Thursday night games. As a spectator, I love them. When my team is playing, I hate them. Especially on a home game, when I could be there, but since its on Thursday, you can't because of work.

I'm not even going to try to make fun of this in any way, shape, or form.

This is not funny, its damn scary.

While I understand why students want to live in Krzyzewskiville, the thrill of being there, getting those tickets and going to that game. Thats all understandable - its just scary.

Honestly, I'm so glad they caught this early and the student is going to be okay. Meningitis is nothing to play around with.

A statement from the school says people who were in close contact with the student, including her roommate and tent mates, began receiving antibiotic treatment on Wednesday.
Also good news.

Let's hope things get better for students in Krzyzewskiville.

Coach K: 'We’re not as good as they are right now. They’re better than us'

The man said it... after a 101-87 beating - Coach K told the world the North Carolina Tar Heels are better than the Duke Blue Devils.

Now... to be fair, that's only part of the quote. Here's the whole thing:

"...we’re not as good as they are right now. They’re better than us, and sometimes a team that’s better doesn’t play as well as that, but they played that way too. It’s going to be difficult to beat them. We just have to keep getting better. We’ve come a long away from last Wednesday and we just have to keep improving.”

So what's this "last Wednesday" he's referring to? That's the Blue Devil's 47-74 loss to the ACC's Clemson Tigers.

In that loss, Coach K admitted "It was 40 minutes of them dominating, they just kicked our butts."

So is this a trend - or just a really bad week for the Duke b-ball team? Are the Blue Devils on the way down?

If not, you should. It's from President Abraham Lincoln's "A House Divided" speech. Today, is Lincoln's 200th birthday.

February 12, 1809, a man was born who would change our nation forever. Things are still not perfect 200 years later, but you have to admit - things are a LOT better.

I've always been fascinated with Lincoln's life... and death.

Wednesday, there was an event at the newly remodeled Ford Theatre. That place is very cool. Just being there, knowing what happened - that you are in a place of history. Very powerful.

Today - no matter what your race, age or sex - I hope you take time out and think about the impact this man had - and how his life has shaped yours - 200 years later.

Tonight a NC rivalry hits center stage

Terrible T and the UNC Tar Heels take on Duke and the Cameron Crazies in Durham.

Even for non-fans of basketball and non-fans of the Dookies and Tar Holes, this is an exciting night. Personally, I don't care for either team, but will I watch? Yes.

Why? It's one of the best rivalries in all of college basketball. If this was football, I wouldn't waste my time with them, but they actually do WELL with basketball.

T. Hansbrough is kind of a douche bag, but he brings intensity to the court. Greg Paulus is kinda short and reminds me of a young Muggsy Bogues. Yes, we all know that Kyle Singler is the big name at Duke, but Paulus just makes me laugh.

Either way, I'll be watching the game.

Who will I pull for? Depends on which crowd I'm nearest when I'm watching the game. Nah, I'm kidding. I have my hopes, I'll just keep them to myself.

For the second year in a row, QB Brett Favre is saying "Adios" to the sport of football.

But is it really for good this time?

Last time, I was shocked and mad -- saying "Nooo... come back." This time, I just don't care. You didn't have a good year, boo-hoo. If I gave up every time I had a bad day... and I don't make even close to an iota of what he makes.

You Mister Favre, are no longer my favorite part of "Something About Mary." I wish you well in your Lee jeans commercials, but I'm done.

Maybe you, Pep and Michael Phelps should meet up, have a party and talk about how you all crushed dreams within the first weeks of 2009. That should be fun.

The USA Today is quoting WIS in Columbia - which says eight people were arrested because of the pot picture.

Apparently, one of the douchebags was caught trying to sell the bong on eBay for $100K. What an idiot. Of course, the PIO in Columbia says they don't know where the reporter got that information. LOL.

Media and honoring fallen troops

A move by Defense Secretary Robert Gates today could mean more pictures in the public of fallen soldiers returning home.

That means you could start seeing more pictures like this.

For a while, a policy at the Pentagon banned media from taking pictures of flag-draped coffins. President Obama announced yesterday he wanted to review the ban.

"If the needs of the families can be met, and the privacy concerns can be addressed, the more honor we can accord these fallen heroes, the better," Gates told reporters at a Pentagon news conference Tuesday. "So I'm pretty open to whatever the results of this review may be."
Gates says he asked for the ban to be reviewed a year ago, but that didn't happen.

Personally, I think the pictures should be allowed. Those men and women are serving their country overseas. If they pay the ultimate price for our freedom, they should at least be able to be honored when they come home.

People need to know about our troops dying overseas.

According to reports, two "Grey's Anatomy" stars are hitting the road.

Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight are reportedly leaving the show by the end of the season.

That's like what, the four or fifth star to leave the show? Is it just me, or is everyone else getting a "Three's Company" flashback? If the show keeps losing characters, the only one left is going to be whats-her-name (title character).

I'll admit, I've only seen maybe one or two full episodes and have no clue what is going on with the show. I've heard rumors of sex with ghosts and all that. Maybe the writers should quit, not the actors.

Then again... maybe it's time for the show itself to flatline.

Stimulate my economy!

So the back and forth battle over the stimulus plan is still in play.

Three moderate Republicans in the Senate just jumped the aisle and helped pass a $838 billion dollar plan. First it was $900 billion, then $780 billion... I can't keep it all straight.

Now the bill is on its way to "difficult House-Senate negotiations."

Looks like the bill will probably get cut more, I just hope something gets passed soon. While they are fighting over if that dog park is really needed in Podunk or if kids really need school nutrition, people are losing their jobs and falling into huge debt.

Can someone just make this economy work? Please?

We may have to get used to saying it. Not that there is anything wrong with the man, it just doesn't have the same ring as Mayor Pat.

Pat McCrory has been in office for as long as I can remember (well, not really, but it has been a LONG time). He's done some great things, faced some big controversy and apparently has some big future plans.

Governor Bev and her lies won't keep him down for long. Charlotte's had him for a good many years, now he's going to spread his wings and try to help more people.

Jerry gets new heart, Pep breaks them

Oh Carolina Panthers - how I love to loathe you and loathe my love for you.

In the past couple weeks, I've been a rollercoaster of emotions. First, we find out Jerry Richardson (owner) needs a new heart. Six weeks later, he's got one and recovering well.

That's the good... now for the bad.

Julius Peppers -- we may be parting ways on February 19th. But unlike most break ups, its not me - it IS you.

Why Pep, Why? Why do you want to leave us in our time of need. We made it to the Division Playoffs this year. But its not good enough for you. You want to be in a 3-4 defense, and the Panthers run a 4-3 defense.

You make me sad Pep... very sad.

If you have to go with your franchise tag, can you at least make sure we get something grateful in the trade? I'm sorry, was that too soon?

Hope you enjoyed Hawaii...

Noo... say it ain't so!

Looks like a bad night and a right hook (at least, I'm assuming) has changed Chris Brown's squeaky clean image into a Doublemint nightmare.

According to a police report (which I haven't seen, but trust published reports) Brown assaulted girlfriend Rihanna Sunday night pre-Grammys. He missed the award show and turned himself in to police.

Until last night - no reports of anything even remotely bad about Brown. No rivalries, no fights, no nothing.

I'm not a big supporter of women-beaters, but if this was really just a one time thing and he's not the kind -- I hope he gets his life back on track.

If he really did beat Rihanna, I hope she leaves him -- one time thing or not.

PS - Wrigley said Monday that it will be suspending its Chris Brown ad campaign for Doublemint gum. Guess we won't see that commercial anymore... okay -- once more for old times sake.

A-Rod on the Juice

You can always count on Sports Illustrated to call out the big shots when they've been lying.

Granted, its been like six years -- but A-Rod (Alex Rodriguez) got caught using the juice. While he was playing an Angel (for the Texas Rangers), apparently A-Rod decided to pump himself full of steroids.

He said - and I quote - “Back then it was a different culture,” Rodriguez said. “It was very loose. I was young. I was stupid. I was naive, and I wanted to prove to everyone that, you know, I was worth, you know—and being one of the greatest players of all time.”

Hmmm... sound like anyone else we know?
